My name is Clair Schwan, and I want you to know that information provided here is almost exclusively from my direct experience, observations and interactions with others. I share the good, bad, ugly and bizarre to provide a wide spectrum for your review.

Some information has been combined or modified for efficient presentation, and other information has been withheld or altered slightly out of respect for the privacy of individuals.

In this regard, I typically use first names only, and only with permission from the individual.

Sometimes I wonder if all the effort to assemble this information is worthwhile, and then I get feedback like the following:

One reader was a bit distressed about her frugal lifestyle and had thoughts about living it up a bit with credit cards. She thought she was depriving herself. After reading portions of the site, she was convinced that she should continue on her course of frugality, avoid debt, and would retire comfortably.

Another woman commented that just one article changed her behavior one day. She read that "you can't buy happiness" and that was all she needed to bring the truth to the forefront, and forgo a purchase that she really couldn't afford.

It's hard to describe just how uplifting some of these comments can be. It makes all the work worthwhile. I've answered dozens of questions that range from when do eggs go bad to how do I stop excessive spending.

If you see something you'd like more information on, just drop me a note using the contact me page. My door is always open. Saying that visitors are welcome is an understatement. So if you'd like to see my greenhouse operations in person, just let me know. That's exactly what the local newspaper did in the summer of 2009.

I'm happy to give folks a tour and answer questions. That's one way to make new frugal friends. I consider it all part of what this website is all about - helping others to achieve some of their frugal living goals.

As I build the site, sometimes I use information from outside experts. In these cases, a reference or citation is provided. In association with Amazon, I'll point you to where you can pick up a copy of the references that I have quoted or used. That's fair to those who deserve the credit for their contribution to my frugal and successful life. I'm all in favor of fairness.

I strive to update the site once a week. The more I write, the more I realize just how much more needs to be written. This site was launched on April of 2008, and it contains 517 pages and about 350 graphics. My sincere thanks to free photo sites like Morguefile and Imageafter for helping me augment my own photos to make this site more appealing.

I gladly accept your ideas and suggestions for focused content that will make your visits more useful. If you send a comment on the contact page, it comes to me directly. I have no staff or support personnel to handle the mail. And, I respond personally to all comments and requests.

For that matter, all content is created by me. Except for very minor editing and advice from my computer guru and sweetheart, Ellen, I am responsible for all text and graphics. I take a lot of photos, but also get some help from places like

I should also add that I have no guest post policy because I like the site to have "my voice."

It is my intention to provide audio, pictures, video and graphics where appropriate to make the content more interesting, enjoyable and entertaining.

At times I get a bit ahead of myself, writing a long article without graphics. Be patient, the graphics are on the way. I think it's essential to show as well as tell.

Sometimes I launch a navigation button page to establish additional scope of the site, and there are few if any links within the page. Be patient, the links to additional pages are on the way.

I'm also regularly focused on housekeeping to improve the reader-friendliness of the site. This is a service to my readers, so I try to make this informative, appealing and easy to digest.

Done with About, take me back to Home

There certainly is a broad scope of topics here at Frugal Living Freedom. When you think about it, money permeates so very many activities in our lives, therefore, being frugal encompasses a wide range of interests, from being employed to taking a vacation, and just about everything in between. Enjoy the variety, pick up some new ideas, and start making frugality a part of your signature.

I'm a big proponent of being debt-free, and I mean entirely debt-free - no mortgage payment. It's not essential for financial freedom, but you'll love the feeling once you get there. If you didn't have a rent or mortgage payment, how much more could you do for yourself with your current level of income? I suspect plenty.

If you ever hope to see an abundance of wealth, you need to plug the hole in your boat. The wealthy don't necessarily make lots of money, instead, they know how to hang onto what they make, and make it work for them.
