Freedom through Frugal Living

Frugal living strategies have helped me become debt free, retire early, stretch my dollars, and enjoy financial freedom and peace of mind. If this sounds good to you, then the more than 150 pages of this site are a good place for you to be.

Clair Schwan of Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Welcome, my name is Clair Schwan. I’m here to offer you concepts and practical advice for living a frugal life and enjoying a debt free lifestyle. I'll also show you how to get out of debt and stay out of debt.

I've achieved financial freedom, and you can too.

Being frugal is all about thrifty living. It doesn’t mean you have to be a tightwad or cheapskate, nor do you have to engage in penny pinching.

You just need to understand the value of money. I'll show you key concepts about personal finance and money management that have helped me achieve financial freedom.

I am very comfortable with my financial condition now, but it wasn’t always that way. My good frugal decision-making helped me save up a small fortune over 15 years of work. Bad decision-making let it slip away in less than 3 years.

Once I got back to wise money management and frugal living, I was able to get out of debt and recover a small fortune in only 7 years.

I’m back on top now, and I am here to stay. You should be here too. I’m ready to help you get here if that is your intention.

Stay with me and together we’ll explore making extra money, work from home opportunities, and strategies for saving money. You’ll also learn ways to save money on groceries, save gas, save money on gas, and live on one income based on a household budget that is well understood.

If I can be successful, then you can too. I’ll help you get there.

Why should we learn about frugal living and how to save money? Because it helps us accumulate wealth so we can have the things that we really want to have – things that mean so much in our lives. Things like:

  • A home without a mortgage
  • Vehicles without monthly payments
  • Carefree living without a regular job
  • A high standard of living
  • Financial freedom
  • Peace of mind
Our happiness and standard of living centers on making wise financial decisions every day. Adopt a frugal mindset, and you will be making better decisions than you probably have in years.

For long term success, you’ll need to fine tune your thinking into a mindset of frugal living. Short term success can be had by practicing some of the frugal living tips that I offer. Most are easy, but some are more difficult. I also have a "best of" collection of money saving ideas for the serious among us.

No matter what your financial condition or income, you can enjoy wealth and abundance, and real freedom of choice that a frugal lifestyle can provide. All you have to do is give it a good try by following some of the suggestions you’ll find here at Frugal Living Freedom.

I should tell you more about me. I can be described as self-made. Because of frugal living, hard work and planning, I retired at age 49 with plenty of money in the bank.

Now, I have no job and no regular income. I have no pension or retirement program from a previous employer, and I don’t need one.

My 12 acre estate and all my “toys” are completely paid for. I have a simple and carefree lifestyle. This is debt free living at its best.

I’m not bragging. I’m simply providing evidence that I know how to create wealth and make it provide a comfortable life for me. My knowledge and experience can work for you too. Are you ready to give frugal living a try?

If you are ready to join me, then let’s take a look at frugality. We're talking about the frugal living mindset we need to cultivate.

Three important notes:

First, we are talking about soft technology. Something that can be learned, but it doesn’t seem to “stick” very well from one generation to the next. That’s why so many of us have problems with personal finance and managing money.

It will take some effort on your part to absorb and apply the concepts and ways of thinking and behaving. If this were simply another hard technology, I would send you one in a box and that would be it. It isn’t that easy. You’ll have to change some of your core beliefs and behaviors to be successful, and it can be done.

Second, I make no apologies for my reference to and focus on America. This is my birthplace and home. My skills and experience are keenly American. My values reflect American heritage, my experience reflects American culture, and my freedom to approach things in my own way is my birthright.

I'm a libertarian at heart, so you'll see my values of freedom, self-sufficiency and free enterprise come through in many of the discussions - sometimes rather strongly. It's who I am, and I hope my values and way of life offer insight as to how you might reshape yours.

Third, I have no formula to recommend that will help assure your success. Everyone is so very different. There isn't a single recommended approach that will work for all.

The idea of this site is to provide you with a wide range of discussion about concepts, philosophies and practical examples so you can formulate your own approach to frugal living and financial freedom.

If you build your own approach to frugal living, with my help and the help of others, you're much more likely to follow it through to success. Good fortune to everyone who sincerely tries to better their financial position and who work "hard and smart" toward a more secure future. I wish you the peace of mind you richly deserve.
