This self reliance blog was established in September of 2009 as a collaborative effort between some of the best writers and publishers of self reliant websites and blogs. The idea was to provide suggestions, hints and tips, advice, recommendations, how-to instructions and real life examples of people leading a life that is oriented towards self reliance.
My association with the Self Reliance Exchange (SRE) is that of co-founder, regular contributor and editor/publisher, but there are many other talented individuals who make this blog a great place to visit. In alphabetical order, by first name, here are my associates that regularly contribute to SRE, a little about them, and links to their individual websites and blogs.
Brad Chaffee - a man with a "debt be damned" attitude who is pleased to let his readers know that in 2009 he became free of student and personal loans and credit card debt. His blog is Enemy of Debt, and I'm proud to call him my friend.Brad and his family live in Virginia where he inspires others to lead a more financially responsible life. I started my association with Brad in support of his passion for individual responsibility featured here at Frugal Living Freedom.
DDFD (DivorcedDadFrugalDad) is also a co-founder, regular contributor and editor/publisher of SRE, and he is responsible for giving birth to the idea in the first place. A resident of New England, DDFD is a talented writer of 3 blogs that I recommend.
His first and oldest site is Divorced Dad Frugal Dad, a blog that focuses on offering advice and ideas to get the "juices" flowing in an effort to help others lead a quality life within a budget.
He also writes Daddy Cooks Quick, a place where you can learn about cooking meals for you and your family, making things from scratch, and other helpful tips about one of the most basic of all self reliance skills - cooking.
Last, but not least, DDFD writes Defensive Entrepreneurship, a place where the entrepreneur or budding entrepreneur can go for advice and counsel regarding the most essential self reliant skill of them all - self employment.
Gulland is a Wisconsin resident and a man of many skills and interests to share with readers of the Self Reliance Exchange. It seems our man in Wisconsin never tires of learning new things, and has a sincere drive to help others learn - especially when it relates to doing for yourself.
Gulland is a blacksmith, welder, chicken rancher, oxen drover, vegetable gardener and all-around self reliant individual who is bursting with ideas to share with others. He is the designer and fabricator of the Gulland Forge Broadfork. He also writes about his self employed and self reliant life at the Broadfork Blog.
Joan Crain is a Utah resident who makes for another of our talented team at the Self Reliance Exchange. She writes and publishes Family Survival Planning, a website with a good breadth of topics related to planning and preparedness with the whole family in mind.
Her website addresses finances, food, first aid, water, and cooking. If you're interested in general preparedness for fire, flood, earthquake, financial upheaval and power outages, Joan offers a wealth of suggestions, checklists and examples of how you and your family can be better prepared for the unfortunate and often inevitable events attributable to nature and human activities.
Kristen is a homeschooled and homeschooling mom who creates a wonderfully frugal and comfortable home for her family on the east coast. She's one of the experts on the web when it comes to all things frugal. She writes and publishes The Frugal Girl, a blog that is rich in photos, recipes, practical experience and advice for those who are seeking to stretch their family budget. Kristen is a self proclaimed picture-taking nut who includes many fine photos in her posts. We're glad to have her many talents on the Self Reliance Exchange.
Mark Zeiger and his family are as close as you can get to being true pioneers in the 21st century. They live on the edge of a fjord in southeast Alaska, more than a mile from the nearest road, and completely self sufficient with respect to home energy, water, waste disposal and much of their food. Check out The Zeiger Homestead and their life of adventure and self reliance.
Mark also writes and publishes The Zeiger Family Homestead Blog where you can learn about the challenges and triumphs of a family living "on the edge." One thing for certain, you'll enjoy what you read as Mark has an entertaining and informative way of capturing his thoughts and experiences.
So, there you have it - the team of regular contributors at the Self Reliance Exchange, a place where we all work together to help our readers create a more self sufficient life, one post at a time.
