Self Reliance Works

I'm proud to introduce Self Reliance Works, a place where you can learn about being increasingly self sufficient in many aspects of your life.

This self reliance blog was established in November of 2010 as a collaborative effort between some of the best writers and publishers of self reliant websites and blogs. The idea was to provide suggestions, hints and tips, advice, recommendations, how-to instructions and real life examples of people leading a life that is oriented towards self reliance.

My association with Self Reliance Works (SRW) is that of host, regular contributor, and editor/publisher, but there are many other talented individuals who make this blog a great place to visit. In alphabetical order, by first name, here are my associates that regularly contribute to SRW, a little about them, and links to their individual websites and blogs.

Brad Chaffee - a man with a "debt be damned" attitude who is pleased to let his readers know that in 2009 he became free of student and personal loans and credit card debt. His blog is Enemy of Debt, and I'm proud to call him my friend.

Brad and his family live in Virginia where he inspires others to lead a more financially responsible life. I started my association with Brad in support of his passion for individual responsibility featured here at Frugal Living Freedom.

Next, there is Brad Harrington, one of only two regular writers on Self Reliance Works that I have met in person. Brad has a broad background in computer repair, newspaper editing, military service and running his own enterprise. He is an unwavering individual when it comes to core American values of personal liberty, limited government and free enterprise, to name a few.

Erin Savoie is the youngest member of the Self Reliance Works team, and she specializes in writing fiction and showing us how to make jewelry. I had the pleasure of meeting Erin during a trip to see my parents in Florida. I'm glad she's on board with our team as she adds a unique skill set to the group. And, she has quite a flair for writing as well. If you'd like to see some of her handmade creations, visit Shades of Free and prepare to be impressed.

Glory Lennon is another of our writers. She hosts Glory's Garden and is quite an accomplished writer on Helium. Glory has a decided focus on anything in the garden and frugal living. She wont' admit it, but she is an expert in many areas of gardening, whether it's flowers, shrubs, trees or vegetables. As evidence of this, she has written nearly a dozen articles just on composting. Here I thought it was simply a matter of tossing things into a large pile and waiting for mother nature to take over.

Anyway, when you visit Glory at her blog, tell her that Clair Schwan sent you.

Joan Crain is a Utah resident who makes for another of our talented team at Self Reliance Works. She writes and publishes Family Survival Planning, a website with a good breadth of topics related to planning and preparedness with the whole family in mind.

Her website addresses finances, food, first aid, water, and cooking. If you're interested in general preparedness for fire, flood, earthquake, financial upheaval and power outages, Joan offers a wealth of suggestions, checklists and examples of how you and your family can be better prepared for the unfortunate and often inevitable events attributable to nature and human activities.

Kerri Martin has dual New York State teacher certification and a Masters Degree in Curriculum Development. Through her position as president and lead test instructor for The Right Path, Kerri provides SAT and ACT tutoring as well as college admissions assistance for busy students through classes, weekend workshops, and online tutoring for distant and international students. The Right Path uses test questions directly from the testing companies and its own test prep manual containing techniques from a variety of sources and over 10 years of research.

Kerri is also the mother of five active boys and knows the importance of being well organized and using a sense of humor to connect with her students and make test prep enjoyable.

Kristen is a homeschooled and homeschooling mom who creates a wonderfully frugal and comfortable home for her family on the east coast. She's one of the experts on the web when it comes to all things frugal. She writes and publishes The Frugal Girl, a blog that is rich in photos, recipes, practical experience and advice for those who are seeking to stretch their family budget. Kristen is a self proclaimed picture-taking nut who includes many fine photos in her posts. We're glad to have her many talents on Self Reliance Works.

So, there you have it - the team of regular contributors at Self Reliance Works, a place where we all work together to help our readers create a more self sufficient life by providing experience-based information, suggestions, tools and resources. It's information you can use to create a more self-directed life that leads to satisfaction through achievement.

There certainly is a broad scope of topics here at Frugal Living Freedom. When you think about it, money permeates so very many activities in our lives, therefore, being frugal encompasses a wide range of interests, from being employed to taking a vacation, and just about everything in between. Enjoy the variety, pick up some new ideas, and start making frugality a part of your signature.

I'm a big proponent of being debt-free, and I mean entirely debt-free - no mortgage payment. It's not essential for financial freedom, but you'll love the feeling once you get there. If you didn't have a rent or mortgage payment, how much more could you do for yourself with your current level of income? I suspect plenty.

If you ever hope to see an abundance of wealth, you need to plug the hole in your boat. The wealthy don't necessarily make lots of money, instead, they know how to hang onto what they make, and make it work for them.
